Step back in time with the EasyCana experts on an unforgettable journey to Santo Domingo, the oldest city in the Americas. This isn’t just a sightseeing tour; it’s a deep dive into the historical and cultural soul of the Dominican Republic. Start your day by discovering the hidden magic of the Los Tres Ojos lagoons before cruising through the iconic architecture of the capital. Wander the ancient, cobblestone streets of the Colonial Zone, explore the First Cathedral of the Americas, and savor an authentic Dominican lunch. An expertly curated experience that brings history vividly to life before your comfortable return to Punta Cana.
As true experts, we at EasyCana know the best way to experience Santo Domingo is by engaging with its history and its natural beauty. Your expertly guided day begins with a comfortable transfer from Punta Cana or Bayahibe to the capital, Santo Domingo.
Our first stop is a natural wonder that feels like a secret garden: Los Tres Ojos Park. Descend into this fascinating open-air cave system where three (and sometimes four!) crystalline underground lagoons await. It’s a breathtaking ecological gem that perfectly highlights the country’s rich natural diversity—a serene start to our journey.
From this natural oasis, we transition to the monumental architecture of the capital with a panoramic view of the Columbus Lighthouse (Faro a Colón), a massive structure built to honor the explorer and a modern landmark of the island’s heritage.
The tour continues with essential panoramic views of the city’s modern identity. We’ll drive past the iconic Presidential Palace, the official seat of the Dominican government.
Next, we arrive at the heart of the journey: the Colonial Zone. As you step onto its cobblestone streets, you’ll feel the weight of history—this is where the New World truly began. We’ll explore the area, admiring the stunning colonial architecture, historical museums, and vibrant plazas. The highlight of this section is our visit inside the First Cathedral of the Americas (Catedral Primada de América), a priceless architectural and religious treasure built in the early 1500s. (For tours booked on Sunday, instead of visiting the cathedral (as it is closed), the experience will include a visit to the 4D cinema to enjoy an immersive historical presentation)
Midday is reserved for a true local experience: a delicious, traditional Dominican lunch. Savor a variety of local dishes served buffet-style, allowing you to sample the authentic flavors that define the island’s cuisine, from savory meats and rice to fresh tropical fruits.
As the day concludes, you’ll board your comfortable transportation for the return trip to Punta Cana, carrying with you the deep satisfaction of having explored the original gateway to the Americas.
